Then you should be able to boot to your Windows 7 installation. The second step is to save the partition table of the hard disk using 'w' and exit testdisk. Once it is loaded, select the bad sectors which you want to fix from the list (in most cases, this is all one sector), and press the 't' key. To write the bad sectors, press f8 on boot to select testdisk. The bad sectors are the ones where the drive may not properly read the data stored. You need to write all the bad sectors on the drive. All you need is the free version of Testdisk and the program Testdisk. It was quicker than Windows' own recovery tools. I had this problem and I solved it using Testdisk.

They all say restore your hard drive and install windows on the new one but i only have my old one.

Ive been googling and nothing has worked. I just bought a new computer for school this week and i want to use my old one for my homework and my personal stuff. I put the new hard drive in the same spot as my old one and it will not boot at all. I burned my computer with my new hard drive in it and only my old hard drive will boot. I have now installed about 4 programmes and my computer is running really slowly.

I have not backed up my documents or any programs.
